I possess a 'server' that functions like a Windows 10 machine. Besides the power switch, its location is difficult to access. On this device, I operate Plex Media Server, Google Backup & Sync (for images), etc. I activate it each morning and use TeamViewer to shut it down most nights. This eliminates the need for a monitor or keyboard. Currently, when I power it up, it simply launches into a Windows account without requiring a password. If the machine were ever stolen, they'd easily obtain my files. The best option would be to create a password for the user account. But when attempting this, Plex Media Server (as an example) requires entering the Windows password first. Can I start programs like Plex Media Server before Windows even logs in?
When the application runs in a service mode instead of a regular user program, it should function properly. There appears to be a method for Plex to operate as a service: https://forums.plex.tv/t/pms-as-a-service/53381#top Typically, server-based tasks run as services and launch automatically when the system starts.
