You're concerned about being forced to re-enter your password after a PC restart. There are ways to set up automatic login that balance convenience with security. Consider using a password manager or enabling biometric authentication (like Windows Hello) so you don't need to type it every time. If you want the system to remember your session while keeping security strong, look into Windows' built-in features like "Remember Me" for logins, or third-party tools that support persistent sessions with encryption.

That will still login automatically after a shutdown though, which OP doesn't want. @SecretX There's a setting in WIndows 10 that should allow you to stay signed in after a reboot. I can't confirm it though as I don't see the option, but my PC's domain joined which may be why. https://winaero.com/auto-sign-restarting-windows-10/ EDIT: Just tested this on a W10 Home VM and it only works after an update or config change, not a normal reboot. You can bypass the logon screen or set an auto login via the registry, but I don't believe there's a way to only auto sign in after a reboot and not after a shutdown.

The information required to bypass the password on startup is your Microsoft account credentials. Ensure no built-in device password exists for the machine, otherwise you'll still need to log in each time. I previously set up automatic sign-in after upgrading from Windows 7 using this approach. You can use the "netplwiz" command to access the user account settings dialog that isn't visible in the Control Panel. Follow these steps:

1. Press Win + R to open the Run box, then type "netplwiz" and press Enter.
2. Click OK to open the User Accounts dialog.
3. Uncheck the option requiring a password for use.
4. Click Apply; if prompted, confirm the account and enter its password.
5. Restart your computer, and it will automatically log in using the entered password without showing the login screen.
