Hello fellow forum users, I have a query. Can I install Linux distributions inside Windows as if they were executable files? I’m looking for ways to open them in a window, resize, minimize, maximize, and close them easily. My goal is to explore different Linux versions before my new Inspiron 7737 arrives. I’d appreciate any suggestions on how to achieve this. No worries if someone has already discussed it!

I'm not sure, but I can help you find suitable VMs if you provide more details about your needs.

I haven't handled VMs before and don't know where to start. Apologies.

Virtualbox is the sole free and effective option. It will function perfectly for your intended tasks.

I understand VirtualBox, though it may not be the best choice. Personally, I relied on VMWare and it performed perfectly. (extra note, VMware is a paid product, whereas VirtualBox by Oracle is free.) I hope you have a great outcome, and feel free to ask about VirtualBox if you have any concerns. As @Damikiller37 mentioned, you should be fine with VirtualBox. Hope this assists.

No worries, thanks for the support. Some colorful lenses helped me out—I’ll look into it. Now, if anyone has recommendations for Linux distributions, I’d love to hear them. I plan to test Mint and Robolinux, but I’m also curious about other options like Virtualbox. I prefer open-source tools over paid ones.

I used iSwitched for my setup and it performed well. The next update is expected soon.
