My motherboard is no longer working (Asrock B450M steel legend). I’m thinking about replacing it myself or going to a shop. Can I do it on my own to save money? What if I try another steel legend board? What about switching to a different B450 model or higher X series?

Using the identical model should work fine without any problems, and you won't need to reinstall the software. However, switching to a different motherboard means you must install new drivers. Essentially, matching motherboards prevent driver updates, while mismatched ones require them.

I've replaced three older Intel machines with AMD B550 boards and CPUs, removed all basic chipset programs, and let Windows 10 handle everything. It's impressive how reliable it is.

I concur particularly when the Windows release is beyond 1909. The latest Windows 10 versions perform exceptionally well in locating and installing the appropriate drivers on their own.

If you replace the Asrock steel legend BIOS with a Gigabyte gaming DS3H without other changes, you’ll just need a stable internet connection. The new firmware should work automatically. Regarding the old motherboard driver, it will likely stay installed unless you manually remove it or the system detects the change.
