Hello, I changed my old Intel DH61WW to version 116. The issue was that Intel took away all motherboard support from their site, so I had to get a big torrent file from a Reddit user who downloaded nearly every relevant file before they removed it. After updating, the PC took a while to start. I assumed it was damaged, but then it worked fine afterward. Now I’m trying to connect an R9 290, but it doesn’t show up. I suspect the motherboard might be the problem since the R9 290 works on another machine. Other GPUs fit with this DH61WW, but they’re older, so maybe the BIOS didn’t include support for it. I’m considering reinstalling the BIOS or downgrading to an earlier version, but I’m not sure if that’s possible. Do you know why the R9 290 isn’t recognized?

I recall hearing about legacy graphics modes on GPUs and compatibility problems with older motherboards, but since the 290 and H61 are similar in age, it shouldn’t be a major concern. Have you tried any other GPUs with that motherboard?

I also used the r9 290 on a Gigabyte h61m d2 b3 without UEFI and it didn't work either. I tried it with gt630 and gtx 1060 6gb, but I'm worried about updating to a newer version. I recall they suggested keeping it at 116 for better stability, and the 120 model doesn't support newer hardware. It seems like just fixing small problems, which is why I considered downgrading. But I'm not sure if that's feasible.

It seems the 290 might not boot in legacy mode, possibly on H61 Legacy BIOS. It’s unclear which exact model it is. You might try an older VBios, but success is unlikely.

The Intel board supports UEFI boot and can disable legacy boot, indicating it is UEFI-based. VBios refers to the BIOS firmware that initializes the computer during startup.

UEFI status is currently pending. You can toggle it on or off using the 290, which might be an option there. A new Windows setup may be required if UEFI was previously used in legacy boot mode, but you're currently in a troubleshooting phase with older hardware.

But it won't even post that's the problem. I do all these tests without any drive. Only to get to BIOS. But with the R9 290 there's not even signal

Have you checked if the motherboard can send video signals when the GPU is connected?

I just ran another test using the GT630. Initially it didn’t work and the motherboard emitted a beep until I reinserted it a few times. Could this indicate an issue with the PCIe slot or perhaps the fact that I placed it on a table instead of inside a case? It might be related to the setup. With the same configuration using the B450M Pro4, everything functioned perfectly. It seems the PCIe slot on the Intel board could be damaged—maybe a short is causing inconsistent contact with the pins.
