In Word you must configure the page dimensions. The program lets you inspect the document smoothly by switching to outline or draft modes. In PDF, this is possible, but not directly from Word to PDF conversion. I’ve built extensive PDF pages when I needed to forward posters or banners to a printer.

I've noticed similar PDFs before, including versions with options. It's hard to spot them at a quick look. Could be the Acrobat Pro feature.
