Hello! I'm trying to upgrade my PC by swapping RAM sticks. Currently I have two 8GB Corsair Vengeance modules, and I'm considering moving them to the main channels with two 16GB sticks on those channels and possibly the 8GB on the second ones. However, I'm seeing conflicting information online about whether this works or not. Both sets are from Corsair, but they have different speeds (3.2GHz for the 8GB vs 3.6GHz for the 16GB) and different CAS speeds (16 for the 8GB and 18 for the 16GB). This is confusing because combining them might cause issues. Also, I'm wondering if adding the 8GB back in could help overall performance. The comparison I saw on Tweakers looks useful. If my motherboard is the "MSI b450 gaming plus max," that might be a clue.

You and I hold very different views on what "exact same" entails. Most likely they will function, but they aren't identical and mixing them should be avoided if maintaining full stability and compatibility is your main goal. If it does work, the quicker RAM might eventually match the slower one's speed and timing.

Volts remain consistent across all DDR4 modules except for very specialized XMP configurations. Focus on speed and clock speeds when aiming for identical performance in paired RAM sets.

I wasn't aware of that. It seems you're referring to RAM specifications, but they weren't exactly the same back then.

More than ten different iterations exist for both the CMK16GX4M2B3200C16 and CMK32GX4M2C3600C18, with each version utilizing a unique memory IC. A number indicates the starting point—3 means Micron/Spectek, 4 indicates Samsung, 5 denotes Hynix, and 8 refers to Nanya. The second and third digits identify the specific die type. For example, a 3.31 corresponds to a Micron E-die, while a 4.31 is a Samsung B-die. It’s highly improbable you purchased identical RAM kits with matching version numbers. Also, 16GB modules are typically single-rank, whereas 32GB kits are dual-rank modules.
