Searching for other gamers, seeking advice on a question. I've been following ED for a while and think it's promising. The YT videos of the ships really caught my attention. Flying in my own spaceship sounds exciting, and since NMS seems risky, Elite feels like a solid choice. However, some say the game is very repetitive, slow, and uninteresting. For players of Elite, should I buy it? How intense is the grinding, and how enjoyable is the experience? Is it worth the cost? Also, does the £19.99 price on Steam cover the Horizons expansion?

Playing this game for hours isn't a good idea. The initial 19$ price doesn't include any DLC. Also, the game is quite dull—most missions only give a small amount of money, and the only way to earn more is through trading, which feels uninteresting.

Yes, purchase the base game but skip the Horizons expansion since it offers little real value. It’s a solid investment if you’re willing to spend around $30, but the extra content doesn’t justify the cost for most players. I’ve played extensively and still find it engaging when approached differently. Mixing activities—trading, fighting, missions, and exploring—keeps the experience fresh. The game thrives on variety; otherwise it becomes repetitive. Play for enjoyment, not just for collecting the strongest ships.

It sounded quite appealing at first, but then I discovered ED uses constant online DRM. That's a big deal...

The game revolves around conflict—either through combat or trading. If you're only interested in destroying things, improving your ship, or purchasing new ones, it's quite amusing. Don't go solo; teamwork makes it better and more worthwhile. We specialize in bounty hunting—it's entertaining, though it can become monotonous over time.

Set ambitious targets for yourself, and start with bounty hunting. No base game features expansive horizons.

Elite offers a solid experience with under 200 hours, though its scope feels limited—just a mile wide and only two feet deep. It covers various elements, but many features remain underdeveloped, such as community quests, faction ranks within systems, and rare items. The Horizons expansion isn’t quite there yet, but it promises new additions next year, like station movement and larger ship capacities. In short, Elite is a decent game now, but it’s still in early development. Horizons might not be worth the investment for now.

The Engineers update isn't part of the core game; you must obtain it through the Horizons expansion.

Elite dangerous horizons features Engineers, planetary landings, and crafting/looting. By year's end it will add multiplayer with a single ship commander and ship-launched fighters.
