I've managed my own router for about a year now. It's a Netgear model. One night around 3 a.m., the internet went down completely, and after an hour it came back. I had to reset everything—set up the Netgear Wi-Fi, change the password, and pick a new network name. It felt exactly like the very first time I bought it. What's going on? I really think I've been hacked!

Likely just a temporary internet disruption.

ISP might have restarted it. The truth is it has a modem inside, giving the ISP some control. It's similar to my SB6141 modem—Comcast can send firmware and configuration updates directly to the modem, which then restarts. It's curious that your router settings were cleared, but it's possible the ISP sent something to the modem.
