I'm checking compatibility for a motherboard with your friend. It should fit the M.2 slot and work with the specified CPU.

PCIe supports backward and forward compatibility, NVMe relies on PCIe. Performance will be restricted to 3.0 standards (due to CPU limitations), yet functionality should remain intact.

PCIe generations are backward compatible, meaning it will function regardless of the slowest device. Are you considering advice for your decisions?

I was curious about this since I have an i5 10600k and a Gen 4 M.2 slot on my motherboard. When I paired it with a Samsung 970 EVO Plus, it didn’t appear in my BIOS even though I installed it in the Gen 4 M.2 slot. I wasn’t sure if this would happen with my setup.

Verified the BIOS settings carefully. Certain boards automatically adjust PCIe versions, while others require manual changes. Your X99 model supports PCIe 3.0, so you might need to revert slots to older versions like 2.0 or 1.0 for better compatibility.
