Smooth and polished animations throughout. The tabbed file explorer looks great. It felt good to use. No noticeable slowdown or performance problems—just a minor hiccup with right-clicking that took two minutes to resolve. Overall, it’s a solid experience with just one small issue.
The initial release wasn't very successful, which negatively impacted many people's views. I usually don't upgrade my operating system unless I really need to.
Heh, the tabbed file explorer crashes really fast when you keep multiple tabs open for hours. I have to close it every morning at work or when I get back home. I hate the strict "minimum" settings and the annoying forced updates. My server runs an LTSC version, but it’s still a big hassle. It keeps asking for a restart just to install updates. Still, I like the operating system overall.
I dislike it, but I've hated every Windows release since 7. I only began using 10 in 2021, and honestly, version 11 is just as bad. Most folks who praise new releases don't have older versions right next to them for comparison. As someone who still loves retro systems, I can switch between old machines easily and see just how impressive those earlier Windows versions were. The real experience a VM offers isn’t something you get from these setups. People usually compare with messy, outdated installations and don’t have clean, optimized versions to actually test against. The ease of clicking a button to launch a game versus opening a launcher that downloads saves and then starts is pretty advanced. I doubt anyone will agree with me, but I also think this group isn’t the best place to share my thoughts—maybe it’s not the right audience after all. You can enjoy it if you like, but I really don’t.
The release felt hurried and a bit rough around the edges. Simplifying the menus only made things worse, and OneDrive/365 feels like a major disappointment. It functions, but the overall experience is quite underwhelming. Microsoft seems determined to challenge you whenever you try to use the system outside their preferred methods.
I mean applying something that differs from their usual approach.
The system requirements are really confusing. Of course you can skip them, but it might lead to problems later. A lot of people dislike the MS account requirement too. There have been several updates that introduced bugs causing data loss. I’ve heard about ads being shown, but I haven’t seen any myself. Personally, I’ve never had issues. I mainly use Windows for gaming—just start my machine and open Steam or a game. That’s probably why I’ve stayed clear of these issues.
I prefer not to have animations since they slow down the OS. The tabbed file explorer I’ve used for ten years on Linux is more space-efficient and functional than Windows Explorer. Still, MacOS Finder performs significantly worse. The main issue with Windows 11 is that updates often cause unexpected problems. I’ve had to skip updates like 24H2 because new issues appear regularly.
