It seems the G31 model isn't as bad as I initially thought. To test, I swapped in my E8400 into a G31M S2C just to compare performance. It managed to hit higher FSBs than my P5QPL-A, which unfortunately failed after a pin snapped. My E8400 could reach around 392 FSBs, while the P5QPL-A maxed out at 515—though I think the board itself matters more than the chipset. Checking the hardware forum showed the highest FSB anyone got on this board was 535, which is impressive for a 4.5GHz setup. It looks like the board really pushes performance limits. For the E8400, I’d need a better PSU to run my P5Q boards properly, as my budget options are struggling with voltage stability. The 92mm Chinese cooler barely keeps the E8400 under 90°C at 4.5GHz with 1.55V, so upgrading the cooling setup would be wise.
