I'm facing a situation where I'm relying on an external sound card to encode my optical output for a 5.1 audio stream. I initially considered using built-in audio but want to move away from the Creative X-Fi Titanium. It appears ASUS doesn't support encoding to DTS or DDL, though it will switch to 5.1 if the source is already encoded. My current setup routes through the sound card → Astro A50 base station → another cable → Logitech Z906 speakers, possibly only needing DDL. I'm wondering if anyone can suggest a way to ensure onboard audio always uses one standard, or if I'll remain stuck with this setup.
