I've seen many videos about how disappointing Asus has been recently. I'm thinking about creating another build (I already have the new case) and I really don't want to switch to another brand and have to re-learn their BIOS settings. Asus is the one I've mostly used for motherboards in my PC gaming, so I'd like to keep that. Have they become more reliable again? My last motherboard was a Z370.
They haven't been consistently unreliable; they faced specific problems like the flipped capacitor and voltage issues on some motherboards as noted earlier by @Schnoz. Those have since been resolved via a BIOS update for the X3D. Every manufacturer has encountered challenges at times. Companies like Gigabyte dealt with exploding PSUs and damaged PCIe slots on their RTX 4000 series, while MSI faced a large recall on their AIO models. Their handling of these situations has been poor. Asrock was blacklisted by many tech creators a few years back due to certain issues or public relations problems. It’s hard to recall exactly what happened. On the positive side, I had no problems with my ASUS ROG STRIX Z390-F gaming rig paired with a 9900k processor—everything stayed stable and the VRM performed well at 5.1GHz OC. I also used an ASUS TUF B650 PLUS WIFI with a 7700x and really enjoyed it, successfully running multiple builds without issues. For now, I stick with ASUS for motherboards because of their reliability.
the asus prime b650 drew a lot of attention for handling high voltages above 100c on its vrms, especially compared to other brands that reached their limits in the 70s or low 80s. running at 7950x overclocking made it a tough challenge, but it didn’t justify the struggles others faced. still, other b650 models such as the tuf are much better overall.
