I'm getting a new motherboard today (all other components are ready) and noticed an additional 4-pin connector beside the 8-pin PC connector. From what I've read, this is typically used for overclocking. Most discussions were from several years back. I intend to get an adapter, but my power supply doesn't support a 4-pin. Will the system run smoothly until then? Motherboard: ASUS Prime X670-P CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7950X

It's not required. Identical to AM4.

According to the specifications, you can exceed the output of a single 8-pin connector, though it may function adequately on most power supplies.
