WiFi is built with this functionality in mind. My devices that only use 802.11n still perform well on a WiFi 6 router.

I’d wait until late next year for the standard to be finalized, maybe even 2025. There’s no certainty that these early devices will fully support WiFi 7 since the details aren’t locked in yet. It’s not clear what exactly WiFi 7 entails, and right now all the routers are based on a draft specification.

Wifi 6e maintains compatibility with versions ranging from 6 to 1, and 7 will work with all of them. The device will switch to 6e mode on the frequency your gadget uses, which naturally limits its speed. Wifi remains highly backward compatible, even for unusual standards like 802.11ad (10GHz).
