I saved the CPU after bending a pin, which caused metal fatigue and broke off between re-seating attempts. I noticed tiny bits of thermal paste on the pins and cleaned them with a soft toothbrush, hoping it would work again. Now it’s missing a pin, and I’m not very familiar with PC building details. The model is a Ryzen 7 3800X.

Based on common sense and logic, missing pins won’t cause your system to crash unless they’re bent and connect to other pins, then it could damage the circuit. Still, every pin on a CPU matters—losing even one can lead to data loss from just that single connection. Avoid installing anything on your motherboard.

It might have been a data or communication pin connected to the CPU. There are also ground pins that the CPU can still operate with. I wouldn't recommend using it, though.

If the device won’t power up, place a very thin strip of straight metal at the spot where the broken pin was meant to go into the socket. This should provide sufficient contact for it to function.
