Original StarCraft and Brood War era. Rise of Nations can be challenging BUT ENJOYABLE.
Most games aimed at beginners really focus on simplicity, but there are many strong RTS titles available. Command & Conquer 3 is a solid choice, especially if you enjoy the series. For those who like strategy with depth, consider Command & Conquer: Kanes Wrath or Supreme Commander. Red Alert 3 offers engaging gameplay with its expansions. Planetary Annihilation and Star Drive are popular Warhammer 40k titles, while Dawn of War has several expansions to explore. The Blitzkrieg mod for Company of Heroes adds realism and variety. Grey Goo is a newer release worth checking out, though I haven’t played it extensively. TB shared a video about it, so you might want to watch it if interested.
I mean simple to grasp the fundamentals of other RTS games. That way I can start easily! Thanks for all the ideas.
Dawn of War 2 seems to be the easiest to start with, with minimal complexity. However, it isn't particularly strong in quality. I suggest moving to the much better original version and its expansions—especially Dark Crusade—and also check out Rise of Nations and Red Alert for some fun.
