I recently purchased new RAM, but the motherboard only accommodates up to 2133 MHz. My initial idea was to upgrade the motherboard since my CPU is a 7th generation Intel I5-7500. I was curious if it could support an 8th or 9th generation board.

The issue isn't solvable. It stems from Intel's software restrictions, and it can only be addressed with a modified BIOS on a specially hacked motherboard.

No, a 7th generation chip won’t fit on an 8th generation compatible board. Intel is known for this issue. They update their chipsets every two generations and stop supporting older ones. You’ll need a 200 series chipset to get it to work. You might want to check the used market—probably not easy to find one right now.

Unless your system uses a modified BIOS, it won't function. If they match in pin configuration, it might work, though you'll need to adjust the BIOS settings to enable it.

Intel isn't recognized for long-term compatibility across generations, even within newer models. There might be a few exceptions, but these aren't typical. Fresh motherboards aren't very costly, just like GPUs, so it's not a complete issue—just allocate your upgrade funds wisely.
