Using the Asrock B550M Pro4, will the issue be flagged or just quietly fixed? Based on the thread you linked, it seems to function but I'm unsure if it logs the error. Your situation doesn't require ECC, though it's still recommended. Regarding memory types, DDR5 includes ECC, while DDR4 does not. It's a bit confusing, so please clarify if you need more details. Thank you!

From reviewing the specifications, it appears the motherboard only accommodates ECC memory with Ryzen Pro CPUs. This doesn’t mean it’s incompatible, though ASRock’s documentation can sometimes contain inaccuracies. If you require ECC support, I’d replace the board rather than risk potential issues. The 5800X3D does offer full ECC when paired with unbuffered DIMMs, but actual compatibility depends on the board itself. For reliable ECC performance, consider DDR4 with genuine ECC memory. DDR5’s ECC is intended to correct data errors during storage, offering some protection against corruption, though it may not handle all problems—mainly occasional bad refreshes.

For the memory, I received details from the seller: Micron Server DDR4 ECC UDIMM 32GB 2Rx8 3200 CL22 (16Gbit) in a single pack. The specs include a module density of 32GB, technology speed of DDR4-3200, and ECC support. The configuration features 2Rx8 CAS latency at 22, with extended timing 22-22-22 and a voltage of 1.2V. It should work with the 5800X3D if compatible.

These should function properly since they’re unbuffered ECC. Just look for a board with full ECC support—most Gigabyte and ASUS models do, though I’m not certain MSI does.
