I’ve placed the pre-order for Oculus Quest v2. It’s my initial VR experience. Although it runs as a standalone, I plan to connect it via the Oculus link. I’ve owned this machine for years since the Sandy Bridge release and still enjoy it today. Will upgrading my GPU affect my i-5? Just a GPU upgrade should work. I’m using an i-5 with an Nvidia GTX 780, 8 GB RAM.

Best to give it a shot and check the results. If it doesn't perform well, upgrading would make sense.

Just need to upgrade the GPU for smoother performance. I understand the hardware constraints.

Consider a system with an Intel 1650 or AMD 1660 processor, or an RX 580 graphics card.
