Your current setup includes an I5 6400 processor, HyperX DDR4 2133MHz 8x1 memory, and an H110M-DS2 chipset. Upgrading to 16GB RAM is a good idea, but DDR4 2400 is outdated now. Downclocking the existing RAM to 2133MHz could work, but it’s not ideal since DDR4 2400 is no longer supported. It might be better to replace the older RAM with a compatible 16GB DDR4 2400 module and downclock it to 2133MHz for better performance.

Yes, because 2133Mhz is the standard DDR4 rate, it’s very probable it will operate at that speed by default. Just verify you purchase from a reliable seller with a solid return policy, since swapping RAM is likely to succeed 99.9% of the time, but you should be ready for the rare 0.1% scenario.

Will the system adjust the clock automatically or will you need to change it yourself?

Your motherboard controls the performance of your memory, meaning once you connect the RAM it will automatically use 2133Mhz unless you adjust it yourself. You don’t need to do anything extra to ensure both types of RAM operate at the right frequency.

The system will automatically reduce its clock speed to align with the slowest RAM module.
