Yakuza: Like a Dragon - MY GOD
Yakuza: Like a Dragon - MY GOD
Never had a Yakuza title before. After spending over 110 hours on CP2077 and conquering it twice, I found the Steam sale and thought it was funny. Watched a brief "should you buy" video and bought it for $44. MY GOD, this game is hilarious. Following the letdown from CP2077 and most of 2020, it’s brought a nice dose of humor and lightheartedness. Anyone else enjoying this? I’m near the 20-hour mark and just got Saeko. Laughing nonstop every few minutes. It’s such a fun and rewarding experience.
Steam reports you're at 128.5 hours of work. You've already completed the story and are aiming for all Steam achievements.
I'm also using a controller setup. Specifically, an Xbox One (the one I've found a way to repurpose for my PC). The game runs well with both configurations. On the primary setup, I'm using 1440p at 144hz (with 8700k/3080 settings), and at 1440p Ultra, my GPU stays around 120-144 fps. It doesn't seem to be affected by CPU load, and GPU usage is typically between 85-98%. No performance issues or bugs have appeared so far. Installed on a Samsung 860, loading times aren't a big concern.
On the second setup, an upgraded TV with a Ryzen 5 1600/Vega 64 and 1080p Ultra settings, I'm not sure about the frame rate or usage stats (no HWInfo running, no Steam FPS overlay since only one display). But it runs smoothly at 1080p/60 with no stutter. It's also playing on an Xbox One controller. The system is on a 5400rpm 4TB WD hard drive, and I haven't noticed any lag or pop-ins. Loading times are longer but manageable, especially since I'm playing in a relaxed setting like my bed. I've been playing for about 20 hours and just unlocked job changes. Recently, I got some new friends—really fun to chat with. They're playing it in Japanese because they prefer native dialogue options, which makes sense for me. Some humor or delivery style might not translate well into English, but it feels best when experienced in its original language.
I upgraded the GPU on my TV setup from 2070 to 2080Ti. It still isn’t sufficient for 4K60 Ultra or even high resolutions, but with G-sync it works smoothly up to around 50fps. Occasionally I play on my desktop at 1440 Ultra, and both the 1080Ti and 2070 handle that at 60fps. I keep the 60fps setting enabled to reduce GPU noise and heat. If I decide to replay the content later, I might need to adjust this. I’ve unlocked the new game+ mode as an alternative. The English voice acting is of decent quality, which is why I switch to Japanese in other games or when subtitles are unavailable. My issue is my limited grasp of Japanese—just enough for occasional understanding but not daily conversation. This makes it tricky to follow subtitles accurately, so keeping everything in one language helps consistency. Unless you’re playing Genshin Impact, where English voice and subtitles often don’t match, I’m not sure about the joke.
I found the Klingon joke amusing while watching anime and Japanese romance/Samurai series. Though I struggle with everyday Japanese, I grasp enough tone and wordplay to sense emotions and context. This game leans more on entertainment than realistic conversation, which works well for what it is. For instance, Gary Buster in Japanese really hit the spot. Also the guy trying to talk to a receptionist at the junior college certificate school is funny. Plus, hearing old men bicker about drinking and homelessness is charming.
