Cloning XP onto another drive won’t automatically make it bootable on your 64-bit Windows 8 laptop. The OS must match the architecture of your machine.

You're interested in using Windows XP as your primary operating system for your notebook. A 64-bit processor can handle 32-bit applications smoothly, and you can easily install Windows XP on the device. But many notebook drivers lack compatibility with older systems, which may affect features like sound, Wi-Fi, touchpad functionality, etc.

Avoid copying existing installations; perform a new setup directly on the laptop for optimal performance.

You can execute it from an external drive by connecting it and launching the application directly from there.

Use virtual box, download Windows XP mode from Microsoft’s site. Extract with 7-Zip; a VDK file appears inside. Rename it to .vdk and mount it in VirtualBox. You can also connect an external hard drive if preferred. I’ll provide a detailed link soon. http://lifehacker.com/5965889/how-to-run...-windows-8
