It seems you're considering selling your I3 8100 and looking for the best and most affordable I5 right now. You're also curious about why your motherboard won't accept an I3 and what the cheapest I5 options are today.

It appears to be typical. Intel provides an XMP "QVL" spreadsheet here https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/...e-xmp.html. There’s no i3 listed, suggesting XMP isn’t applicable to i3 models. Still, why the performance drop? Also, I’m skeptical about noticeable differences between 2133 and 2400 with just this component.

I created it for my mom who had limited funds. I missed something and had to return it for cash, which ended up going to the I3. What’s the best option now?

It depends on your use case—web browsing or office tasks don’t require any concern about RAM speed.

She passed away three days after receiving it, never getting to use it... now I do.
