XMP stability
XMP stability
Hi, I've had XMP enabled for some time without crashes, but I experienced stutters in Fortnite recently and also noticed lag when playing BF5 at 130FPS. Others have mentioned similar issues lately, so it might be a game-related problem. I'm not sure if XMP is the cause and don't want to risk damaging my PC. Could you please advise whether Prime95's blend test is sufficient and how long you suggest using it?
I'm not sure about the reasons behind XMP's involvement, but you can always enter the numbers directly in the BIOS. I think the game engine is more likely responsible if the files are the only changes, rather than your computer. This seems more common when others are facing similar issues.
I don't want to risk damaging my PC, and I'd like to avoid worrying about it. I'm not familiar with PCs, and this is my first one, so I just want to keep it in good condition for a long time. Is the Prime95 blend test sufficient, or should I try another tool? We actually have the same RAM installed.
I wouldn't consider XMP a solution unless your device shares the same motherboard as yours. To be certain, check your BIOS settings for the compatible RAM specifications. What kind of RAM do you actually possess?
Highly unlikely XMP is causing your issue at all. Theres 100 other things that can do that before I'd say that. XMP memory issues don't cause stuttering they cause they system to crash and corrupt the drive.
You won't damage anything, and XMP is run base don built in settings for the RAM that it tests fine at, Like I said your system would be unstable if there was a problem.
No, I understand what you're saying. I'm using the same amount of RAM as you do. I've only seen others mention some stuttering online. I haven't made any changes elsewhere, just wanted to confirm I'm not causing any problems. It seems like I might be overthinking it.
Correct, XMP has been enabled after setting up my motherboard/CPU/RAM combination, and I wasn't anticipating any issues. The provided information suggests Unreal Engine 4 might be involved, as similar games using the same engine have caused problems before.
Maybe. I plan to try Metro Exodus soon, which uses a different engine. I’m hoping there won’t be any problems, but if they do, would you think the prime95 blend test is sufficient for stability testing since it checks RAM as well? Just to confirm it’s not the cause of the issue.
It's beneficial to perform a stability check during overclocking. This test can also assess RAM performance, although it's not very likely.
So i'm playing Metro Exodus now and there is definitely some slight stutters from time to time. But this is another one of those times where on forums there are some discussions about stuttering issues in the game so i don't know if it's just a game issue again. I don't really care much about stuttering, i'm more worried that i might be harming my PC or if there is something wrong with my card. My temp on the RTX 2080 is 76c when i'm playing and gpu usage is about 96%.
