XMP leads to crashes in games and Discord services.
I turned on the XMP profile since my RAM speed was high and the system was in auto mode, which helped temporarily. But now games often crash and Discord sometimes freezes. I’m unsure if the issue is with my motherboard or something else—I really need some guidance. My specs are: ASRock B450 Gaming K4 CPU, Ryzen 5 2600, 3.4 GHz base, 3.9 GHz turbo, 16GB Vengeance RGB DDR4 at 3200 MHz, MSI GeForce RTX 2060, 2TB SSD, 240 GB HDD.
It seems the CPU's memory controller might be under strain with the Samsung B-die, especially for Ryzen models. I suggest using a Micron Revision E die instead, as it handles the workload better. I own the same CPU but have a kit with high-end Micron Revision E memory. It supports 3200MHz and even allows overclocking without issues.
Early Ryzen models faced many RAM speed problems, but the second generation improved. My system runs smoothly at 3000mhz on a Ryzen 1600 and handles 3200mhz RAM without issues. I recommend checking for BIOS updates since they greatly affect compatibility, particularly with B450 chipsets. Your BIOS updates can be found here. For a 2600, avoid upgrading to versions higher than 3.40. Also note their update guidelines—if your BIOS is older than 1.80, you must upgrade first before moving to 3.40.
corsair vengeance isn't often paired with samsung b-die. I owned a ram from hynix; xmp helped but only one profile worked, not the other, and manual overclocking was out of the question—it would crash right away. Now I have a trident z, b-die, 3200, boosted to 3600 and it seems to function properly.
Sure, let me know if it helps solve your concerns. For clarity, always perform BIOS updates on a reliable system. In this situation, skip XMP during the flashing process because it’s likely contributing to the issue.
