Hello! A few days back I set up my PC and faced an odd problem (it functions now). I turned on XMP for my RAM, but it wasn’t reaching 3200MHz—so I had to reset the CMOS. (It’s stable at 3000MHz now.) After resetting, my previously installed Windows SSD stopped booting and needed a full wipe on another machine. It works now, but I’m concerned about data loss if I ever need to reset the CMOS again. My board is a B550 Tomahawk with a 3700X, and I’m using Trident Z RGB 3200 CL16 (it doesn’t support Ryzen and only runs at 3000MHz). Anyone know why the SSD wouldn’t boot after clearing the CMOS?

It worked initially, but I reset it later and the system couldn't start because the boot priority was set to SSD first.

Once transferred to another PC, restoring everything correctly and wiping data worked as a fix. This is something I encounter often when working with hardware setups. Your insight is valuable.

That aligns with what happened. Since it's an M.2, it might have shifted a bit while I removed the GPU to reset the CMOS, and the battery was hidden.

During a recent build, I pressed the power button but got nothing; I spent 20 minutes troubleshooting before taking a break. After an hour, I realized the PSU cord wasn’t connected to the PSU even though it was plugged in. It seems like an operator mistake.

Isn't it confusing why the XMP profile didn't activate? I've been trying to figure it out, but beyond that memory optimization for Ryzen is the main point. The 3000mhz speed is actually fine for me, though I'm still puzzled now that the SSD problem is resolved (thanks @Tristerin). What's happening is: turn on XMP settings and restart; sometimes the display stays blank or just shows a line. After clearing CMOS it works at 2133mhz. It seems the SSD not being properly seated isn't the issue here?

Consider placing your RAM in DIMM slots 2 and 4 instead of 1 and 3 if those are available.
