XMP doesn't function with the Trident Z5 MSI MOB and 7700x model.
I recently set up a new setup using an MSI b650 tomahawk, 7700x, and a Trident Z5 6400mhz cl32. Like my earlier system, I started by turning on XMP in BIOS and everything ran smoothly until now. This version behaves differently—when I attempt to enable XMP, it fails to boot and displays a red CPU light along with a yellow DRAM indicator on my motherboard. To restore normal operation, I need to clear the CMOS, unplug the motherboard, fully disconnect the GPU, and re-seat the RAM for it to return to its 4800mhz speed. PLZ HELP!!!
Only a small selection of CPUs supports 6400, particularly when considering SOC voltage limits. It's likely you own one of the rare models that don't. You might attempt to push the SOC voltage up to 1.3V (the safe upper limit for long-term reliability) and observe the outcome, but if it fails to boot at the standard 1.25V, stability at 6400 is unlikely. Adjusting memory speed may be necessary to achieve success. Start with 6200MT/s, which many chips can handle with minor tweaks. Adjust the SOC voltage until it stabilizes—some processors require as low as 1.15V, while others need 1.3V or higher. If stabilization occurs, retain the XMP settings and voltage; otherwise, reduce to 6000MT/s and configure timings (30-38-38-30) with the default 1.4V VDIMM and 1.25V SOC, which should work across most CPUs and memory modules.
