I have an old Xeon X5675 and a budget i7 950 server for just 25 USD. Since both use LGA1366 CPUs but differ, can I swap the i7 for an Xeon?

If the bios includes the microcode, insert it and observe the outcome.

Depends heavily on the motherboard design. It's best to check the manufacturer for compatible processors. In theory, they can be swapped if possible. I've tested multiple Xeons on various desktops, but the result varies by board. Consider updating the BIOS and clearing CMOS before upgrading. If you encounter boot issues, reset CMOS again and revert to the previous i7 model.
