Xeon x3480 help!
Hey everyone, I just got a Gigabyte GA-p55-ud3l rev2.0 Mobo and checked that my Xeon x3480 is compatible. I’m thinking about overclocking the CPU, but I have no idea how to do it properly—my only clue was that it should involve BCLK. A lot of people say it’s not worth it, but since most of my budget would go on an Asus dual OC 1060 with 6GB RAM and a new case, I don’t have the funds for both the Mobo and CPU upgrades. If anyone can advise or point me in the right direction, that would be really helpful. This CPU just needs a bit more power to run Monster Hunter World smoothly, and I’d love to play it. My build is planned in 2-3 weeks.
By "bclk" they refer to increasing the FSB speed, since the xeons are multiplier locked. This approach doesn't apply universally across all boards and RAM/graphics setups, meaning the level of overclocking possible differs. With my daughter's Xeon 5450, the maximum I achieved was around 9%, after which the RAM began to fail. According to available information, the highest confirmed overclock for this chip is 3.78Ghz, which could be worthwhile if your system supports it.
the xeons in that line are unlocked in my view, saving some cash by purchasing an x3440 or x3450. They cost around 20 usd and boost to 4ghz with solid cooling.
