Xeon Swap Dell Precision T3600
Xeon Swap Dell Precision T3600
I’m considering a used Dell Precision T3600 with the E5-1607 (4 cores, 4 threads) at 3.0 GHz (possibly version 2), paired with an E5-1620 (4 cores, 8 threads) at 3.6 GHz (4 cores, 8 threads). The price target is around 65-70 USD in Denmark. Is this reasonable? And more importantly, will it function properly? Also, can both Sandy Bridge and Intel Ivy Bridge processors run together on the same board in this machine? Cooling requirements should be about 130W, and I’m planning to add an used RX 480 GPU with 4GB RAM, a PSU rated at 635W, 80+ Gold certification, plus two 6-pin PCIe cards.
This resource could be useful. For more details, check the Dell community pages on workstation upgrades. A solid system like yours will appreciate the information. Alternative links are also available if needed.
I'll personally attempt to retrieve the 6 or 8 core if it isn't significantly better.
It seems the chipset supports both Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge, while the Dell M.2 slot may not.
