I've been removing old server components at work and found an Intel Xeon E5440 in nearly new shape. People often look for compatible boards that fit this older hardware, and since it's outdated, you might find options that are affordable.

Through some study and effort, you can apply a sticker mod and BIOS mod to run this on most LGA-775 boards. I installed this exact change a few years back on a Xeon E5450 and it performed very well, matching a Haswell i3/i5 in benchmarks.
