Xeon 8124M paired with a Dell Precision Tower T7820 workstation
Do you know if the Xeon 8124M fits into a Dell Precision Tower T7820 Workstation? Both use LGA3647 sockets, but this processor has many compatibility issues. Since these chips aren't on the roadmap, finding details is tough. You can check the product page here: https://www.dell.com/en-us/work/shop/cty...orkstation and the listing on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/373533875018?ha...56f85a9b4a.
Based on my experience with Precisions, I can confidently say that unless it's specifically noted on the BIOS compatibility chart, it won't work. These machines are powerful but have limited expansion options unless you're very skilled or meticulous. The 81xx line is officially supported, so it should be compatible, though I recommend checking your BIOS version first. Have you already reached out to Dell technical support?
I own a T7610 and a few T5610 models; they tend to be selective about CPUs but more flexible with RAM. This means investing a lot of money comes with a higher risk—so it's wise to consult Dell first.
It would just be twice the cost compared to purchasing a mainboard. Yes, but I reached out again and now another person mentioned it wouldn't work since it wasn't listed on the CPU list. These processors are quite difficult to obtain for use. The only compatible options I found were Gigabyte R181 servers and the ASUS WS C621E SAGE mainboard. Some SuperMicro boards reportedly functioned, though others reported significant problems. https://forum.level1techs.com/t/xeon-pla.../161064/52 Edit: This mainboard is confirmed to work: ASRock Rack EP2C621D12 WS (updated June 1, 2021 by parg)
