Xbox wireless adapter fails when PC powers down—needs reinsertion each time.
I recently purchased an Xbox Wireless Adapter and encountered some difficulties. When connected, it functions properly. However, during PC sleep cycles, the adapter ceases to operate completely. Reinserting it resolves the issue, which is quite frustrating given its placement inside the PC case under the desk. I've searched extensively online for solutions but haven't found any effective fixes. My attempts included checking Device Manager properties and ensuring the power option was disabled, adjusting power settings to disable USB selective suspend, uninstalling the device, restarting the computer, and trying different USB ports. I noticed that after waking from sleep, the device manager still reports it's working correctly, while some users online claim it doesn't function. An event log entry noted a startup issue with the device, and a driver name indicated it was recognized as an Xbox Wireless Adapter. I previously experienced problems with a counterfeit adapter that wasn't detected by Windows, requiring manual driver installation. This one appeared to be recognized immediately, suggesting it might be genuine. My motherboard model is a B450 GAMING PRO CARBON AC.
If a software fix isn't available, I'd simply run a cable extension and place it under the desk next to you. Then it would be a straightforward plug or unplug process. Or alternatively, just leave your PC powered on.
Adjusted it for you. As long as Windows sleep is still a mess, remember to turn off your desktop.
No, that's not correct. I haven't powered down my PC in months.
Do you keep it active or put it to sleep each day? Using sleep might mean you have to purchase tickets regularly if it needs to run continuously.
I’m only dealing with this adapter issue, not other sleep problems. I saw some online mentions of it, but others didn’t have issues. I’m mainly trying to find a fix, not completely eliminate sleep.
It could depend on a different driver version, another USB controller driver, or even your chipset compatibility. Sometimes it just doesn’t work well with the hardware timing, and the system might not give clear clues. Diagnosing sleep issues is tough because everything is connected, and logs usually only say the driver failed to load. If I had to guess, turning off USB wake might help, but it could just be another minor inconvenience like reinserting the cable.
