Great news: cross-platform games are coming. Console players are just using credit on Xlive for the same costs we pay to upgrade our systems, which isn't too unfair. The price listed is $400 per CGU. But what about the latency? I recall my friend playing on an X360 of Modern Warfare 2 with a poor ping—around 90-120ms.
Purchase a standard branded console for $400-$500 and settle the online charge. Pay a reduced fee of $30 annually instead of over $60. Opt for the elite branded version for $500-$600 with no online charges at all. Choose the open platform version for higher costs, similar to PC users. Expect more non-steam ITX builds entering the market. Promoting it as an open platform for marketing purposes.
It seems everyone’s excitement could push M$ to reassess and encourage PC gamers to invest in online multiplayer experiences.
Uncertain about this, open platforms mean Microsoft doesn’t manage any servers or connections like they do with consoles, such as using Azure cloud servers. If servers are entirely owned by Microsoft and they attempt it, no one will buy that game. It’s a lost effort and sure to cost money. I believe enough pressure could force them to assist the console companies get better pricing or drop it completely. They won’t do this for us.
I enjoyed the final post: "but steam is not as good as Xbox live." Haha, my day turned out great!
Xbox players are forced to buy the system, they don’t make it themselves. They rely solely on Microsoft’s offerings, leaving them with limited choices. Welcome to console gaming, where freedom is a myth because you’re paying for a basic machine. It wouldn’t be fair for PC users to pay for a dull service with little value. Linux gaming offers a different path.
