Hello everyone, I recently installed a 9950X3d and Asus ROG X870E Crosshair to replace my failing Intel setup. Before doing anything, I ran Memtest Pro to ensure my 96GB 6400 RAM was functioning properly. Then I connected a USB drive running Portable Windows to check the OS stability. I planned this before upgrading to a fully water-cooled system. After a thorough clean installation with Windows 11 on the portable version, everything is working well. However, I’m facing an issue during reboots—Windows freezes and stays on a black screen instead of restarting normally. I’ve tried rebooting manually and using memory context restore or software reboot workarounds, but nothing has helped. It seems the problem might be related to connecting via USB or something else. Right now, only the USB drive, motherboard, processor, and RAM are connected. Any suggestions would be really helpful.

Typically these problems stem from Fastboot settings in Windows or the BIOS. Look for the option and turn it off in both, then check if the issue persists. Updating the BIOS can also resolve it.

It might be shaky RAM after enabling XMP; turn it off to check. If that’s the problem, try using 6000GT.

It seems disabling fastboot in the BIOS might have resolved the problem. Uncertain if it was the fastboot setting or the drive port change that helped.

It seems the tests passed without issues. Both MemTest86 and OCCT CPU and RAM checks returned clean results.

Confirmed the 40GBPS USB-C port works. At 10G it functions fine, but switching back to 40 causes the issue. It looks like connecting the drive to that port triggers a hang while the other setting works.

You're trying to cut down on Asus motherboard purchases. Noted—the RGB panel over the IO panel wasn't functioning because the wire wasn't connected. Appreciate the good build quality!
