The reduced energy consumption appears to be a strong justification.

It's far more intricate than it seems, and not everyone bears a heavy cost for energy. We also don't have children we're concerned about passing on the planet, etc. (just added for those not parents.)

It could fail in certain models such as convertible laptops because... https://www.techpowerup.com/320240/qualc...tra-7-155h premium cars are being used in some of these. I don't believe X86 will change much soon for large gaming PCs though.

They only glanced at the beginning of the video, highlighting that it doesn’t claim X86_64 should be abandoned. Instead, they mention the need to phase out older CPU models like 8086 compatibility. This change is probably coming, similar to what game consoles do to conserve silicon. Intel has even talked about dropping certain legacy chips—real 32-bit processors—which are no longer required since modern software runs in 32-bit compatibility mode, part of x86_64. In short, it’s achievable and has already happened; Linux on the PS4 had to adapt for this shift. [note] Interestingly, the article and video seem to stray far from this point, focusing instead on topics the author didn’t grasp, which is what the video actually covers.

The world remains anchored to x86. Whether you like it or not, it won’t change anytime soon. Windows is only beginning to plan for an ARM/RISC shift.

I'm handling multiple virtual machines, so my friends can run their lab projects on those arm-powered MacBooks. If compatibility with old software is resolved, we'll all be happy to proceed.

YT has been urging me to watch this video for weeks, but now it's missing. It doesn't appear here. I believe certain older components might need to be removed, which could impact backward compatibility and make it tricky to choose what should remain.

Efficiency keeps changing and works better across different designs. The gap between them is usually just a few years at most. In the big picture, it doesn’t matter much. A 28W TDP 8840U Ryzen offers performance similar to a 27W TDP M3 Pro. Sales teams often confuse comparisons because they aren’t fair, which helps them sell.

We've been trying to replace x86 for fourty years in the workstation/server market and 20 years on the consumer side. And guess what Intel is still making. Just because ARM processors surpass X86 efficiency doesn't mean the architecture will vanish off the face of the planet suddenly. X86 doesn't "need to die". Such a statement is just as stupid as saying combustion engines should be outlawed.
