Hey there! I’m a gamer, a caregiver, and a beginner miner. I’ve managed to save enough for a £90–£100 motherboard. I got an Intel Xeon E5-2650v2 at 2.6GHz from a friend, but I checked out two options for this chip. I’m trying to balance my daytime gaming and nighttime mining because of my limited income. I’ve sold my 8-core FX8350 rig and most spare parts to buy a car so I can drive for my mom’s appointments. Still, I have some components left from past builds.

Here’s what I have:

- A black PC case – not too fancy.
- An XFX 650W Pro modular PSU.
- 16GB DDR3 (1600MHz) RAM with two 3TB HDDs.
- A Samsung HD103U HDD.
- One Zotac GTX750TI (2GB).
- My old RX460 (4GB) – still works for games but not great for mining.
- Now I have the Xeon E5-2650v2, which is a big upgrade.

I’m thinking about whether to keep my current RX460 for gaming or switch to a second one next month. My miner suggests using just one CPU with some RAM and a GPU for mining, plus a tweak tool for gaming. That’s what my buddy said, but I’m not sure if it’ll work well with my setup.

My planned games are:
- Car Mechanic Simulator 2018
- Fallout 4
- Blademistress Reborn
- Weolenstiens from Old Blood to New Collector’s Edition
- Doom 2016
- FF8 and Runescape

I’m okay with a bit of compromise – nothing too heavy. I’ll stick with the games I love, but gaming during the day and mining at night sounds tricky with my budget.

What do you think about going dual CPU for mining or keeping it single? I’d lose about £3.15 per month if I mine one CPU 12 hours a day. What are your thoughts? Thanks a lot!

These motherboards are often unreliable and prone to issues. It’s best to steer clear of the X79 platform if you’re on a tight budget. You’ll probably end up spending more time fixing problems or experiencing crashes instead of getting good performance. A used budget AM4 board with an older Ryzen chip would be a smarter choice.

I operate a dual X79 setup (Dell Precision T7610) equipped with two E5-2643 v2 processors and 64GB ECC Reg DDR3 RAM. This serves as my primary workstation. I’m mainly a professional photographer, not much of a gamer, but I enjoy playing Minecraft and Armored Warfare. I also experiment with Doom 2016 and the system performs well. While I don’t mine, those budget Chinese X79 boards can cause serious problems, including fire risks. For your consideration, the top recommendation is to follow the advice in this channel closely. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8h2Sf-...eEUr-OHgyg The Russians are heavily testing these low-cost boards and provide thorough evaluations of their strengths and weaknesses. I purchased an X99 board after watching those videos and have experienced excellent results with it.

svmlegacy is a Ryzen 1700, the most powerful CPU I’ve got? Yeah, I really wish I could upgrade to one but it costs between £65 and £105. At the moment I only have four 4GB DDR3 modules at £1600 each, and I just found an 8GB Fury with 1866MHz that I probably lost. Sorry, not trying to be funny—just saying my buddy who gave me the 2650 V2 mentioned it’s around £28, which is cheaper than the P4 2.4GHz I borrowed from another friend. I’ve seen some videos about the X79 overheating and a few people mention it’s okay but not great. So I’m weighing options: maybe a Chinese clone like the X99, or saving for another 6-8 weeks or swapping my Hyper X Fury. I’d also love to sell my old 486 DX4 machine, though it feels a bit nostalgic. Hopefully I’ll think more and see what others think—still early days, remember? Thanks, Laz.

Sure it's not the least, yet it offers excellent performance relative to its price, especially in terms of multi-core processing. The Ryzen 3 1200 stands out as the most compact quad-core option, alongside the Athlon 200GE and Athlon 3000G. You can find similar models at lower prices, though not significantly below the 1700 benchmark.

i'm not sure if I made my argument clear about being on a tight budget because I'm a carer. i was wondering about a x79 motherboard, not am4, but i'm joking. the ryan 1200 cpu costs £75 plus you need a board and memory. yeah, i'd still be around £160 even with a £35 cooler for my fx3850. the motherboard would be £95.99, the cpu £75, 16gb ddr4 for £50. totaling about £161. let's see how it breaks down: i have £100 saved but we're £60 short. bills are going to virgin internet at £45 per pm, moms life insurance at £35, dad's funeral repayments (£4000 left), debt management (£100), shopping (£150), rent (£75), gas (winter £50, summer £10), electric at £100, mom funeral plan (£124), car insurance £50, tax £50, tv license £12.50, bedroom tax £50, mom bed pads £40, cat food £20. that adds up to £977.61 minus £961.50, which is about £16 left. it would take me four months to switch to an am4 if everything stays stable. ncme £605.14 for mom, £200.25 for carers allowance, r a f pension £172.16, total £977.61 minus £16.11, so still around eight months left.
