You’re asking if it’s feasible to split your setup so the left monitor uses only the built-in GPU and the right monitor runs the 2080Ti. You’ve already tried connecting them that way, but only the right monitor works. Your idea is sound—separating tasks based on performance needs. It should work if you allocate enough resources to the gaming monitor while keeping the onboard card for lighter tasks like browsing or basic performance. Just ensure your system settings and drivers support this configuration, and monitor stability.

Yes, you can combine the built-in GPU with a dedicated GPU at the same time. This is possible by adjusting a specific BIOS setting on your motherboard. However, not every system allows this feature. Typically, both the IGP and the PCIe-x16 slot are shared for the IGP and video card, meaning you can only use one or the other. Therefore, non-video devices like RAID controllers won’t work in the x16 slot without affecting the IGP. To enable both, follow these steps: Power down your laptop or PC using the power-off key. Turn it back on with the power-on key, then press the delete key once per second until you reach the BIOS menu. Adjust the option "init Display First" from "PCIe 1 Slot" to "OnBoard".

It makes no sense to move your second screen to the onboard graphics. The performance gap won’t be perceptible.

I thought it might be using the same lanes. That could explain why the onboard graphics aren't being used in the task manager when running it this way. It looks like the 2080 is handling the tasks through those lanes. Still, it would be great for gamers.
