I've just installed an x670 aorous elite ax and a ryzen 7600x. I built the PC and it works fine with the integrated graphics and no GPU. Once I connect the power cables to the PSU, it stops working entirely—just a faint click from the supply, then nothing. This happens even without plugging anything into a GPU. I've used two different PSUs (750W and 850W) with an RTX 3080 and also a 5600X. I'm really confused and feel like I'm making a huge mistake. Any advice would be super helpful.

I might remove all contents and check it in a container to eliminate a short.

Is the GPU designed with modular components? Are the power cables sourced from the PSU maker? The connectors on modular power supplies aren’t standardized, meaning you can’t always combine parts from different suppliers.

Thanks for trying it on the box and in cases 3 or 4. Everything looked good—no loose screws, cables all properly connected. I’m typing this up now. Frustrating as FFFF.

Sure, Corsair RM750X has been working well for a few months, and I tested it today. The EVGA 850 GT seems to match perfectly, so it’s likely not the PSU or motherboard problem. Could have been my own mistake or something with the board?

Based on your notes, it seems the PSU is identifying a fault and halting operation to safeguard itself. You've already completed all required checks for a short circuit. The only part still unmodified is the motherboard (mobo). Following Senzelian's advice, consider relocating the card to another slot. The manual indicates the mobo has three power inputs—two 8-pin connectors on top and one 24-pin on the side. Are you using all three? Some boards allow omitting one 8-pin connector if you're not overclocking, though certain models might need both for proper function.

Confirming the setup: two 2x6 pins and a 24-pin all linked together. I plan to shift the card, but if it doesn’t power up when the cables are hooked up to the PSU and no card is inserted, I expected it to function.

Connecting just the GPU to the PSU without linking it to the motherboard might still allow basic startup. There could be an issue with the motherboard handling power at startup, possibly drawing excessive transient current—this should be addressed with a 850W supply. It seems like a common misconception, but make sure all fans are properly seated in their designated slots. Are there any that appear sluggish or struggling without the GPU connected?
