Hello, I own a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R mainboard (rev.2) with BIOS version FB. My CPU is an i7-930 Xeon X5670, and I have 18GB RAM (2GB x 3 plus 4GB x 3). The graphics card is a Galax GTX1050Ti. I’ve been using this setup for about eight years, learning about Xeon from a video and doing some overclocking. After that, I purchased an Xeon X5670 from Aliexpress to continue the upgrade and ran it at 3.4 GHz daily for roughly one and a half years.

Last July, I took my PC away for a month and encountered a strange problem—my system wouldn’t boot, even though power was working, fans spun, and no beep codes appeared. I thought the CPU might be dead. I replaced it with an older i7, which still feels sluggish and struggles with multitasking. Now I’m considering the Xeon X5675 from Aliexpress. However, switching to that model caused the same boot issue. My BIOS battery seems to be failing as well.

Could this be related to the motherboard or the Xeon itself? Any advice on troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated.

My Bios are labeled with "FB" and they don't refresh before, yet it works with X5670.

It's an extremely old piece. It might be failing. Honestly, it's pretty cool it's still running on the 930.

Have you considered swapping the battery? A failing BIOS battery can lead to problems. You might also try repositioning the RAM or attempting a boot with just one stick. I’m not sure why it works with the i7 but not the Xeons. Have you experienced any stability concerns with the i7 after it stopped working with the Xeon? It could be useful to check the Intel HEDT forum for more insights.

Thanks a lot! I'll swap the Bios cell soon and attempt an update with Xeon included. It's strange how it stays stable with I7—thanks again for the discussion!
