I've started preparing a PC build for later this year. Initially, I intended a R5 3600, but now with the 4000 series confirmed, I'm considering the price and performance of the 4000 models. It's uncertain which chipset will be better optimized for Ryzen 4000 overall. For the 3600, B550 was my first choice, but if I switch to the 4000 series, should I opt for a high-end X570 or a more affordable one?

To give you an idea, the PC build I’m considering was initially aimed at around $600 to $700, but it’s now about $1500. I’m still deciding, and I usually revisit my options multiple times before committing. For the GPU, I’m leaning toward a 3070 or possibly one of AMD’s newer models based on reviews and pricing updates. Right now, I’ve mainly checked the B550 and settled on the AsRock Steel Legend, though I often re-evaluate before finalizing. Of course, I didn’t plan to buy anything else besides the mic stand I just got yesterday—it was on a great sale.

I would choose the B550. Some boards cost a bit more than the x570 but offer superior VRM—more power phases or better MOSFETs/power stages—and larger heatsinks. Many models support upgrades to alc 1220 (from alc1200 or alc892) and include 2.5G Ethernet along with newer Wi-Fi AC/ax standards. Numerous B550 boards also feature BIOS flashback capabilities. You’ll lose only PCI-E 4.0 support for the second M.2 connector and chipset-driven slots, which isn’t significant.
