X570 supports multiple PCIe lanes for enhanced connectivity.
Hello everyone, I need someone to clarify things in simple language. I own a Ryzen 5800X, an Asus Strix X570 with 32GB RAM and a 6800Xt graphics card. I’m trying to understand how to expand my storage without using a bulky SATA cable on the motherboard. The board has two M.2 slots—one for booting and another for games. I’m considering adding more storage but prefer a compact setup over a visible cable. I’ve noticed M.2 cards and thought about getting one to increase space, though it seems tricky. The PCIe lanes are confusing me. According to ASUS, if the first slot is used, I can add two more M.2 slots in the second PCIe lane. Do I have enough lanes for that? I also read the CPU uses 24 lanes, the graphics card 16, plus 4 for the first M.2 and another 4 for the chipset. I want to keep my graphics performance strong. Can you explain what’s possible and what isn’t when it comes to adding a PCIe expansion card? Thanks in advance.
