He’s discussing the discrepancies in RAM specifications across different platforms. At the 16:35 point, Linus mentions a 5600 MT/s speed for a 7950X3D with the AMD site showing a maximum of 5200 MHz. He also notes that some users report running 3600 MHz on a 5800X3D, though the site claims a supported limit of 3200 MHz. He tried using 3600 MHz on his 5600X3D but faced issues, only managing 3200 MHz. The question is how these higher speeds are possible and why the CPU limits seem to be bypassed. He’s also checking if enabling DOCP at 3600 helps, but it still doesn’t post.

Technically, any RAM faster than the official support is seen as overclocking. Most Ryzen 5000 series chips will run smoothly with DDR4-3600, though this isn’t confirmed by AMD. They only confirm compatibility with DDR4-3200. What RAM do you own? Are you using two or four sticks? (Four sticks can be trickier to stabilize, particularly dual-rank pairs) Also, what motherboard are you using? Some older 300-series boards handle higher speeds less well.

You're using a 4x16 card with TridentZ Neo 3600 and a TUF Gaming B550-Plus motherboard. You're considering adding more RAM but wondering if it's worth giving up 32GB for a slight speed boost of 400 MHz.

XMP/DOCP and EXPO are now widely used to boost memory performance, making overclocking seem routine. Many people aren't aware they're surpassing the official memory limits set by AMD or Intel, or the extent of that boost. Running four modules can require additional adjustments such as higher voltages or tighter timing/frequency settings. Two modules tends to be more manageable for the CPU's memory controller.

I'll keep it at 3200, no changes needed. That way I avoid dealing with voltage and timing adjustments.

AMD rates the 5000 series to 2933 at 4x single rank or 2666 at 4x dual rank, which means you're outperforming the standard version.

Great to hear! It seems like you were puzzled by what he was saying.
