x3470 3.4 gtx 1060
I'm considering upgrading to a Xeon X3470 and OC it to 3.4, or should I upgrade my Intel i5-750 to 3.7 instead? I already have cooling in place, but would I need to adjust the voltage settings?
Both are quite old designs from a few years back (2009). Regardless, your 1060 is likely to face significant performance issues.
For today's games, I think the xeon would be more suitable since it offers better performance characteristics, even if its clock speed is lower than the i5.
But you should still OC it properly. The i7-870 is generally considered superior to the x3470, as xeons tend to be better optimized and more suitable for overclocking overall.
