i believe i found an X299 AORUS Gaming 7 MB on eBay. The listing mentions a GIGABYTE X299X AORUS MASTER, but the picture shows an X299 AORUS Gaming 7. I’m looking for a CPU that’s affordable for now and easier to upgrade later when prices drop. Would it be okay to use an i7-7800X QS or similar models? Other options not listed could work too. It relies on the timing of the ES. In any case it “should” function, but what are you willing to sacrifice? I’d skip ES.

Certainly, it's important to consider whether it's a newer or older ES. Avoid earlier models with CPUs that aren't in the latest line, but later ones work well and are mostly the same as retail chips.

Specific boards are compatible with ES chips most of the time, like ASRock or ASUS WS models, though you'd need to search extensively. QS chips work too, as they're a prototype version of retail CPUs. I recommend the 7920X since ES chips have uncertain support, and the QS is a 7800X which isn't great for gaming—especially with its limited 28 PCIe lanes, making it hard to use all slots if you plan to add many cards.

It seems like this setup has two 2.2 monitors, but it's unclear how many Lanes it uses. A 16GB RAM likely won't be enough for one GPU, probably never will. I doubt the RAM supports multiple lanes. For gaming, 16GB should suffice for Diablo 2 and Minecraft. This is more of a preference than necessity, and I’m planning to finalize my build this summer. I have a 6600K and a GTX 1080, which are sufficient for my needs. However, I’ll still keep the 6600K for general use and stick with the GTX 1080 for gaming. With newer operating systems, Steam becomes challenging, so I might need to create an offline build. I’m not sure yet, but I hope to get everything ready soon.

The chipset typically uses four lanes, bringing the overall bandwidth to around 28. RAM performance is also distinct; these chips support quad channel configurations, and using four sticks in the right slots can significantly boost speed—especially for large data transfers without affecting latency. The 1080p performance remains solid, matching the capabilities of my 2060 Super, and it handles 1440p or even 4K at times with some adjustments. I believe these components would likely outperform the 6600K, especially if you have a higher-end model like the 6700K or 7700K. The mesh architecture on X299 chips affects latency more than bandwidth, making them less ideal for competitive gaming compared to ringbus-based Intel processors.
