I've worked with Linux a lot via PuTTY...my X11 skills are pretty limited. I need a user on a laptop in another room to run an X app and see every click and keystroke. I also want to be able to take over and make changes, like collaborating on a document while someone else works. What options do we have?

It seems you're suggesting the solution might be x11vnc. Running VNC on one side could work because X11 data isn't heavily compressed or optimized for networks.
