I was using Wayland but ended up in X to adjust Nvidia settings. The app buttons and file dialogs appearing at the top are unusual for me. Also, images in Gimp look different, and my color theme feels off in Wayland—though I do have Nvidia installed.

The setting depends on the desktop you selected, not the underlying technology powering it. Switching from a window manager to a desktop environment likely changed how your session behaved.

You're in KDE but unsure why the button placements shift.

Whatever the cause, it has nothing to do with X vs Wayland. If you moved to Wayland and your setup changed, it's likely KDE restored its default settings, not because Wayland was involved. Wayland is a newer interface that supports features like VRR and HDR, but it doesn't alter the overall layout of the desktop. The IDE might allow extra effects from the updated API, though the system itself doesn't mandate them.

What is this? Do you know X, X11, and Wyland? One seems superior to the others.

You're experiencing a problem where the interface looks different across users. This inconsistency might be due to variations in settings or configurations.

The problem relates to GTK and window dialog buttons appearing at the top of the window in Wayland.
