I believe the community is downplaying the performance of this CPU. 1. The majority of games aren't CPU-limited, 2. A 14 Broadwell core setup should run smoothly, the real issue lies in thread count rather than pure IPC since modern games no longer strictly require four cores. If I were a streamer, this would be an excellent investment for both gaming and streaming thanks to the core count. Regardless, it's a useful discovery—likely these units are being discarded as e-waste, since recycling them at low prices isn't economically feasible compared to newer, more advanced systems.
We have several 2640v4 models in our facility. They perform well, though they're designed primarily for virtual machines, meaning most tasks are multi-core focused. These units aren't the fastest per-core processors available. For gaming, you'd be better off with a different setup. However, they excel in multi-threaded applications and offer excellent value for the price.
